From the land of mall and airport,
Region clogged with cars and freeways,
Single riders, vans and carpools,
Grew the railway Hiawatha,
Running every seven minutes
Past the Falls of Minnehaha,
Neighborhoods like east Nokomis,
Bungalows of old Nokomis,
Traveling to a gentler workday.
Endless planning was the cradle
Of the infant Hiawatha;
Public funding flowed to nourish
Hiawatha, still on paper.
Federal money filled the gap 'tween
