Cuando el inmortal poeta estadunidense Henry Wadsworth Longfellow visitó este poblado de Nayarit, en marzo de 1880, escuchó el tañer de las campanas del pueblo, y le infundieron tal sentimiento de nostalgia que la vertió en un poema que tituló "Las Campanas de San Blas", aludiendo al inminente fin del siglo.

Una muy mala traducción de una de sus estrofas diría lo siguiente: "¡Oh campanas de San Blas / que en vano sonáis / pidiendo al pasado volver; / sordo está a vuestro ruego: /de las sombras de la noche / va el mundo en pos de la luz / y ...
