WORCESTER - Foothills Theatre's somber rendition of playwright Phyllis Nagy's adapation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's celebrated novel of 17th-century adultery, "The Scarlett Letter," certainly boasted finely wrought performances from its cast of seven yesterday afternoon, yet its alternately lulling and engaging narrative pacing curiously thwarts a satisfying emotional connection.
