"I was sick - sick unto death with that long agony; and when they at length unbound me, and I was permitted to sit, I felt that my senses were leaving me," begins Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "The Pit and the Pendulum."

While Concord's The Town Cow Theater Company does not want audiences to go through the agonies quoted above, the players are aiming to thrill the crowd with a theatrical fusion of literature, actors, and music. The company's summer production is an original play adapted from Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" and Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Antique Ring."
