Hawthorne to reopen in the fall

ANTRIM -- Nathaniel Hawthorne College in Antrim, vacant since the school closed in 1988, will reopen this fall as Maruzen Hawthorne, to the delight of residents who feared the 935-acre parcel would be sold to the developers of private prisons.

Officials of Maruzen Kensetu Co., the Tokyo construction firm that purchased the property, meeting with Gov. Judd Gregg and other state and local officials Tuesday, said they plan to spend $20 million to refurbish the campus.
