Chapter V: "May And November"
Synopsis:
Phoebe Pyncheon stays overnight at her cousin's house; she decorates her
bedchamber with flowers; she discusses family matters with Hepzibah; she
pleases the "elderly spinster" by officially getting breakfast and conducting
the cent-shop; she wins the approval of Uncle Venner. All in all, in spite of
Phoebe's helpful qualities, Hepzibah feels a quiet scorn within herself about
this young woman who is not a true Pyncheon.
