Brief Summary Of "The House Of The Seven Gables":
The old Pyncheon house in Salem with its seven gables is occupied by Miss
Hepzibah Pyncheon, who, because of her meager means, rents one wing to a young
daguerreotypist (maker of pictures) named Mr. Holgrave. The house has seen
evil days. Its original builder, Colonel Pyncheon (a hardhearted Puritan of
importance) seized the land on which it was built from a man named Matthew
Maule, who later was executed as a wizard (a male witch). Before Maule died,
he pronounced a curse on the Pyncheon family, ...
