Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's play 'Iphigenie auf Tauris' uses mythic elements to depict man's rise to higher levels of consciousness. The play starts with bloody, violent conflict in the persons of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. In the next phase, Orestes and Iphigenia with the divine archetypes of Apollo and Diana start a new world order where truth and justice prevail. The play ends with a 'coniunctio,' allowing men to relate to each other with support and love. The text of the article is in German.
