THERE is so much more to this play than the glossy image created by the musical My Fair Lady.
And in going back to the original play, first published in 1916, director Peter Hall brings greater insight into the characters of both Professor Higgins and Eliza Doolittle.
Gone is the sentimental happy ending from the film which Shaw disapproved of, and in its place is the original climax revealing a distraught Higgins at discovering Eliza is after all the stronger character.
