The Irish writer George Bernard Shaw was the author of more than 50
plays.
Shaw was born in Dublin, Ireland, but he spent most of his life in London. Shaw was very concerned about the poverty and misery that he saw among most English working people. He helped to start a socialist club called the Fabian Society, organized by people who wanted to reform British society and government. Shaw criticized the British way of life in many of his plays. He had a biting sense of humor. His characters often make us see a particular subject in a way we had never thought of before.
