WASHINGTON, July 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The history of an African American icon is one step closer to being preserved.

Tonight, the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives is expected to pass a nearly million dollar funding measure, championed by Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), to help complete restoration of the Frederick Douglass National Historical Site in southeast Washington, DC, known as Cedar Hill. Mr. Douglass is recognized internationally as the "Father of the Civil Rights Movement."
