WASHINGTON, May 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Republican-led Congress is pledging its support to "promote and perpetuate the legacy" of the father of the civil rights movement, Frederick Douglass.

U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) and other members of the Congressional Republican Leadership today traveled to the Frederick Douglass National Historical Site, known as Cedar Hill, to announce nearly a million dollars are on the way to complete restoration of the Douglass Home in southeast Washington, DC.
