Students across the Washington, D.C. area and New York honored the memory
of archetypal Black abolitionist, statesman, publisher and author,
Frederick Douglass at his former home, now The Frederick Douglass Historic
Site at Anacostia, SE.

In an oratorical contest in which students were asked to select any of the
Douglass great speeches and regurgitate them with emotions and
understanding to commemorate Black History Month, the competition was open
to elementary, middle or junior high and high school students.
