Frederick Douglass Centers May Close
The Frederick Douglass Child Development Center, which serves more than 1,600 families with 31 Head Start and State Preschool Programs in South Central Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley, is losing its county funding and may close permanently.
Los Angeles County Office of Education officials said budget mismanagement, program deficiencies and the excessive turnover of agency executives and board members are the chief reasons why they did not grant Douglass' 1997-98 funding request.
