On...Saving Frederick Douglass High.
Due to an overwhelming effort by a coalition of groups, Frederick Douglass Senior High School was saved from a planned state take-over. As the mayor noted, the effort to save this historic Baltimore landmark was intensive and may have paved the way for finding community-based solutions to our education problems.
The successful Douglass effort was led by churches, students, parents, and community groups and showed the kind of unity and civic pride in Baltimore that makes me proud of our great city.
