Mayor Guiliani was conspicuous by his absence Thursday night when the New York Urban League crowded the Sheraton Centre with people who matter in this town. Whether in the spotlight or exerting power behind the scenes, this gathering was auspicious one in its multicultural, intergenerational and interracial spirit, personified by its list of supporters, sponsors, patrons, members and guests.
