Once upon a time (1875, to be precise), in the we s tern New York town of Buffalo, young John Larkin started a small business selling soap. He was hardworking and persuasive, and his venture prospered. Soon Larkin hired a salesman named Elbert Hubbard, who proved to be a brilliant marketer (see "Man with a Mission," left).
