Elbert Hubbard--entrepreneur, writer, philosopher, publisher, utopian visionary, manufacturer, promoter, and above all, showman--was born under the right star. As one contemporary self-help manual advised: "Remember that great motto of success--All's well that sells well." Hubbard cut his teeth in advertising and promotion as a soap salesman in Buffalo, New York, during which time he invented the premium as a way to increase sales.
