With apologies to Ralph Waldo Emerson and Elbert Hubbard, if a mint can produce better coins, collectors will beat a path to its door to buy them. Design excellence may be one of the reasons for the Royal Canadian Mint's success story. Last year, for example, Canada's gold bullion coins outsold those of its nearest competitor, the United States, by an almost 2-1 ratio. When it comes to the production and sale of platinum coins, Canada is far ahead of the competition.
