HAVING spoken to numerous pantomime actors over the years, I know what to expect: a stream of bad gags, tales of ridiculous costumes and memories of famous dames.

What I don't expect is a conversation peppered with names like John Coltrane, Dante Alighieri and Carl Jung. With a bit of Japanese theatrical history thrown in.

But then not all pantomime actors are like Matt Devereux (pictured right) , a chap who really earns the title Renaissance man.

He's at Mold's Clwyd Theatr Cymru this year playing the squire in Jack and the Beanstalk, a theatre where he last appeared ...
