U. Wisconsin-Stout jazz band plays tribute to Katrina victims

(The Stoutonia) (U-WIRE) MENOMONIE, Wisc. -- The UW-Stout band program performed their "Winter Holiday Concert" Dec. 4.

Their program featured two pieces from Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy," the famous 700-year-old poem about a journey through the afterlife.

"The Divine Comedy" is a remarkably difficult piece of music, for which the band had to practice an hour and a half twice a week in order to be ready to perform.

"The Divine Comedy" is derived from Catholicism and features three sections: "Inferno," "Purgatorio" and "Paradiso."
