A judge rejected an attempt by lawyers for Bernhard Goetz to throw out attempted murder charges or delay his Monday trial because a grand jury never heard from witnesses supporting the subway gunman.
Judge Stephen Crane asked prosecutor Gregory Waples, who called the charges a "pile of rubbish," to help defense lawyers find the witnesses.
Goetz, 39, shot and wounded four youths on a subway train Dec. 22, 1984, after at least one of them asked him for $5. @Slug: A07AR5
