The New York State Supreme Court has rejected Clark M. Clifford's effort to release some or all of about $19.2 million in cash and securities frozen in New York as a result of charges in the BCCI case against the former defense secretary.

Judge Stephen Crane's order sheds new light on Clifford's personal and legal expenses - and those of Clifford's law partner Robert A. Altman - as they mount their defense.

Clifford's assets in New York were frozen in July, when he was indicted there. Clifford appealed the order in November, saying that he needed more funds released from his New York ...
