A Glossary Of Literary Terms

Abstract. A word or a sentence is said to be abstract when it refers to
a general class of things or persons, or when it makes a statement about a
quality or a state of being, as opposed to a particular person or object.

Alliteration. Alliteration is the repetition of a series of initial
consonants (i.e., consonants at the beginning of successive words or
syllables).

Assonance. Assonance is the repetition of similar vowel sounds,
especially in stressed syllables.
