UK novelist Joseph Conrad's book 'Heart of Darkness' evokes the mythical story of the Roman hero Aeneas, his journey of initiation and his trip to the underworld. The novel's protagonist Marlow is the incarnation of both good and evil and his boat evokes the image of the vessel of Charon, the ferryman who transports the dead across the River Styx in Greek mythology. The character of Marlow is interpreted vis a vis its counterpart in Greek mythology.
