In a postscript to a letter dated 7 January 1902, Joseph Conrad mentioned to David Meldrum of Blackwood's Magazine that he had written a "paper comparing the spirit of Elisabethan times with ours as expressed in the respective literatures" (CL 2.369). (1) The paper has never been located, but the letter describing it suggests that Conrad considered Elizabethan literature significant to contemporary concerns.
