THE ORIENTAL, BANGKOK on the banks of the Chao Phraya River of Bangkok was a quaint little hotel patronized by some legendary world travellers throughout its 130 years.
Built in 1876 , the hotel looked then like a turn of the century summer mansion and so was favored by the likes of authors Joseph Conrad circa 1888, Somerset Maugham, Noel Coward and James Michener. In their honor, The Oriental, Bangkok has named four suites in the "Authors Residence" wing after them.
