No parece fácil acotar las obras completas de un autor. En rigor, la obra canónica solamente debería incluir aquellos escritos que el autor firma y autoriza para su publicación, mientras que todo lo demás--sean cartas, diarios, borradores o notas a pie de página--habría de considerarse, más bien, el residuo testimonial que deja el autor tras de sí. Si somos aun más rigurosos, deberíamos excluir también--y quizá con mayor motivo--todo escrito publicado sin firma, e incluso descartar cualquier obra repudiada más adelante por el autor.
