YORKSHIRE was last night the toast of the Cannes Film Festival.

Sam Riley, from Leeds, once a struggling musician, is star of a film acclaimed at the event and now the region's most famous literary family is causing a stir.

A new film will focus on the lives of the most famous sisters of English literature - Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte.

However the actresses, announced yesterday at Cannes, are all American -Brokeback Mountain and Dawson's Creek star Michelle Williams, 26, The Village actress Bryce Dallas Howard, 26, and up- and-coming Evan Rachel Wood, 19.
