There's no doubt that the TV story of the week was that of a strong, assertive woman, who finds herself the unfair victim of a vicious campaign of gossip and slander.
Of course I'm referring to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, the excellent three-part British mini-series running on Channel 1 which winds up this Sunday night at 10:35. Based on a novel by Anne Bronte, the younger, lesser-known sister of Charlotte and Emily, this is a compelling gothic melodrama with a surprisingly strong feminist slant for a 19th-century work.
