LONDON Cliff Richard, one of Britain's most enduring pop stars, announced plans Monday to finance and star in a musical based on Emily Bronte's 19th century novel Wuthering Heights.
Richard, 53, who has made more than 100 hit records since the 1960s, said he would put 5 million pounds ($7.4 million) of his money into the show and play the lead role of Heathcliff.
Richard, an avowed celibate Christian, said he had long dreamed of portraying the passionate, moody Heathcliff, but he acknowledged they were different personalities.
