It is impossible to speak of Emily Bronte without also speaking of her
family, "that family of poets," as Thackeray described them," in their
solitude yonder on the gloomy Northern moors."

After filling a number of minor clerical positions, the Reverend Patrick
Bronte, born "Brunty" in County Down, Ireland, became curate of Haworth, a
lonely parish set in the wild moors of Yorkshire. There he lived with his
