Rare Bronte first edition breaks pre-sale estimate

A RARE first edition of Emily Bronte's iconic Yorkshire novel Wuthering Heights has sold at auction for Pounds 114,000.

The edition of the tragic love story, which was first published in 1847, smashed its pre-sale estimate of between Pounds 30,000 and Pounds 50,000 at a sale at Bonhams auction house in London.

Only three first editions of Wuthering Heights have been sold at auction in the last 35 years and the price is thought to be one of the highest prices paid for a copy.
