A FORMER North Wales high sheriff whose home inspired Beatrix Potter's Tale of Flopsy Bunnies, has died aged 98.
Captain John Oliver Burton, of Gwaenynog Hall, was a former mayor of nearby Denbigh in the late 1960s.
His daughter, Janie Smith, who opens the hall's gardens to Beatrix Potter fans during the summer, last night said her father "led a fantastic life" Born in Manchester, Mr Burton moved to the family home in Gwaenynog with sisters Margaret, Helen, Letitia and Esme aged six.
