Beatrix Potter was the author of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. The story began in the 1890s in letters to the sick child of a friend. When Potter started publishing her stories, she illustrated them herself with delicate drawings in soft, pale colors.

Beatrix Potter was born in London, England, and was educated by a governess. She had a pet rabbit, which was later the inspiration for the story about Peter Rabbit.
