WHEN L Frank Baum wrote his classic novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz in 1900, the first in a series of 14 books about the fictional land, it's highly unlikely he imagined it ever making its way to the big screen as a musical.

He died some years before the iconic 1939 film was made, starring Judy Garland as the ruby slipper-wearing heroine Dorothy, but it's very probable the author would have been pleased by what he saw.
