Dec. 6--In 1905, L. Frank Baum of "Wizard of Oz" fame, wrote a children's story called "The Discontented Gopher," set on the prairie near Aberdeen.
The plot features a 13-striped gopher named Zikky and the challenges he faces living on his own during a time when gopher tails were gathered for bounty. The book has been published by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press as the first children's book in the new Prairie Tales series.
