The information superhighway is comparable to the yellow brick road which leads to the Emerald City in the book 'The Wizard of Oz' because of the utopian expectations associated with it. Expectations are fueled by corporate advertising to project a positive image of the information superhighway and a failure to recognize the disadvantages of using automated systems in relation to labor supply. The information age is also associated with improved democratic processes because it allows more people to contribute opinions on important issues.
