Call 2004 the Year of the Biopic. Ray Charles, Cole Porter, Sir James M. Barrie, Dr. Alfred Kinsey, Vermeer, Howard Hughes, Bobby Darin. And Aileen Wuornos, too.

Three of these - Porter, Ray and Darin biopics - plus the long-awaited "The Phantom of the Opera" - contributed to a comeback for musical movies.

This immensely varied group of people from musicians Charles, Darin and Porter to scientist Kinsey to billionaire aviator Hughes to serial killer Wuornos found their way to the motion picture screen.
