One of the big problems of movies these days is that all of them seem to swing for the fence. They cost so much to make and the rewards can be so vast that every movie strains to be spectacular and pleasing in every frame, and invariably ends up being bloated and mediocre.

So it's a real pleasure to find a movie as calm, measured and dead-on in its impact as "Finding Neverland," a period drama based on the life of "Peter Pan" playwright James M. Barrie that serves as another dynamite star vehicle for the high-flying Johnny Depp. ...
