Anthony Trollope, novelist and son of the famously acerbic Frances who found so much discomfort in the Cincinnati of the early 19th century, was himself less acerbic when writing about a jaunt to Kentucky's horse country. Then as now, trips to Kentucky's horse country seem to do that -- take the edge off.
