LORD HURD of Westwell explained why politicians are attracted to the novels of
"It's our new home strip" Anthony Trollope at the Trollope Society's annual dinner at The Great Hall in Lincoln's Inn last night.
"Trollope seemed to know us politicians inside out. He saw them as vain and sincere - not insincere as we're often portrayed in the Press," the former Cabinet minister told me.
"I'm a big fan. My house-master at Eton when I was 13 used to gather all us young scholars on Sunday nights and read aloud either PG Woodhouse or Anthony Trollope. Ever since then I read and reread his books."
