Trollope may not win stamp of approval

THE ROYAL MAIL is in a quandary over whether Anthony Trollope should be immortalised on a stamp. At the Trollope Society's annual dinner in the Great Hall, Lincoln's Inn, last night, I learnt - prior to the Queen, I might add - that in March 2001, the Post Office will announce a series of stamps to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the pillar box.

However, confusion looms as to whether Trollope, who was also the Post Office's most famous employee, starting out as a humble clerk, should be included in the commemorative stamps.
