Marion Flesch, of St. Paul, had suffered anxiety attacks for decades when a friend suggested that she attend an Al-Anon meeting, hoping the anonymous sharing of her experiences would help her. There, she found a salve for the fears she'd had since childhood. Eventually she helped pioneer an organization, Emotions Anonymous, based on the 12-step program.

Flesch died of natural causes Oct. 10. She was 93.
