An anonymous benefactor has come through for the sixth year, giving $49,842 to Lend a Hand and pushing the total for this year to $144,250.

Since 2002, this donor's gifts have reached almost $250,000.

This year the money will be used to help dozens of people like Christine, the subject of today's story, who is dying of breast cancer. One reader's generosity will help her family keep their home as they deal with her illness.

It will also help others we've written about over the past five weeks.
