Fed: PM dismisses anonymous rumblings about his leadership

CANBERRA, July 18 AAP - John Howard has dismissed anonymous calls by two Liberal MPs
for him to hand over the prime ministership to Treasurer Peter Costello before the federal
election.

Fairfax newspapers today quoted two backbench Liberal MPs as saying Mr Howard should
step aside and allow Mr Costello to lead the coalition government to the election, due
later this year.

Mr Howard said he would not respond to anonymous comments.
