Ann Radcliffe (1764-1823) was born in London. Author of three acclaimed books, `A Sicilian Romance' (1790), `The Mysteries of Udolpho' (1794) and `The Italian' (1797), Radcliffe was one of the first exponents of the Gothic novel and idol of the Romantics.
