Author Louisa May Alcott made a brief appearance at University Elementary School on Thursday in the person of 11-year-old Jennie Obst.
Dressed in period costume, the fifth-grader transformed herself into the 19th-century American author of "Little Women" and other tales as part of the districtwide oratorical program. As Alcott, Jennie explained to classmates, teachers and parents in the school auditorium how she turned to writing to support her poverty-stricken family and achieved literary fame in the process.
