Australian director Gillian Armstrong was of two strong minds when she was sent the script of an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's ``Little Women,'' which opens this week.
One told her to go ahead and do the movie; the other warned her against it.
``I had a feeling I'd kept the book from my childhood,'' the 44-year-old director says. ``I went and had a look and there it was on the bottom of a shelf, with `Heidi.' I opened it up and it said, `To Gillian, Happy 11th Birthday!' Of course, I loved it when I read it and like most people, I identified with Jo.''
