BOB EDWARDS, Host: Some reviews indicate that when the latest movie
version of Little Women opens across the country on Sunday, it will
be Hollywood's nicest Christmas gift to audiences in years. This
is at least the third time Louisa May Alcott's book has been made
into a movie, and NPR's special correspondent Susan Stamberg says
the reasons for the book's popularity are clear.
